The presentation of the Local Economic Development (LED) model for Tumanyan town and the neighboring communities of Kharinj, Marts, Lorut, Shamut, Chkalov, Dsegh, Dzoraget was held on May 27, 2014 in Tumanyan Community Centre. It was developed through "Participatory Evaluation of Competitive Advantages" methodology.
The LED model presentation was organized in the framework of the project “Social and Economic Empowerment of Women in Armenia”, which is implemented by “Armenian Young Women’s Association” NGO and financed by the European Union.
Community economic development stakeholders, including local authorities, private sector and civil society representatives attended the presentation. During the event, the main economic development directions and perspectives, competitive advantages, existing and potential economic relations and local resource-based projects and steps, which will support the local economic development in those communities, were presented by the local team and experts.
With the LED models, educational and awareness raising training workshops and discussions will be conducted, aiming at promoting entrepreneurship among women. Besides, financial assistance is going to be provided to the project beneficiaries, in order to implement business projects for promoting the development of communities.
According to the president of Armenian Young Women’s Association Lilit Asatryan, the development of the LED model is a very important step on the way of formulating the communities’ development opportunities."We are glad that AYWA team has been able to work with not one, but a group of community-clusters, and at the same time has noted prospects of clusters development and cooperation between involved communities. Through LED model, socio-economic development with participation of all stakeholders including communities will be able to move to more favorable stage, at the same time encouraging and promoting community participation in the process"-said AYWA president Lilit Asatryan.
Armenian Young Women’s Association (AYWA) has been implementing Social and Economic Empowerment of Women in Armenia Project in Lori Region since May 2013. The project duration is from May 2013 to April 2016.
“Social and Economic Empowerment of Women in Armenia” project contributes to the promotion of women’s social and economic empowerment in Lori region to improve women’s social-economic situation.
The project partners are CISP organization, Lori Marzpetaran and Vanadzor municipality. The project is funded by the European Union.
