Today the presentation of the program of founding the Girl Scout Movement in Armenia was held. The program is implemented by the Association of Young Women of Armenia with the support of the U.S. Embassy and the Ministry of Education and Science since 2010.
The chairwoman of AYWA Lilit Asatryan said the program has a unique format because it is not limited to one event and will continue through the year. As part of it, a camp, discussions and other events will be organized. The purpose of the program is to raise civil awareness among girls to bring up responsible citizens for the country, ready to make their contribution to the development of the country.
The U.S. ambassador to Armenia Marie Yovanovitch said the movement of Girl Scouts appeared in the United States in the 1930s, and has had 20,000 members in 70 years. Ms. Yovanovitch says youths included in the program can achieve a lot and can contribute to the life in the country as citizens.
Ms. Yovanovitch said a country must use its resources at full to be able to survive the world full of challenges, and girls, young women must bring their contribution to this. This program is an opportunity for women to learn about their rights, duties as citizens of a democracy.
