On March 11, 2015 within the frameworks of “Social and Economic Empowerment of Women in Armenia” project the EU delegation to Armenia and Armenian Young Women’s Association had organized press event for mass media representatives in Akhtala community.
The aim of the event was to present current achievements of the “Social and Economic Empowerment of Women in Armenia” project and to celebrate together Women’s international day. The event was also attended by the deputy governor of Lori region and the mayor of Akhtala.
More than 140 women and girls from Lori region have participated in trainings organized within “Social and Economic Empowerment of Women in Armenia” project implemented by the Armenian Young Women’s Association. Totally 62 business plans has been presented by the participants as a result of the training. 12 from these were group business plans. The 14 projects received a positive assessment, 3 programs from which has been financed already; 1 in Akhtala, and 2 in Alaverdi. Women received grants bring their projects to life. The remaining 11 projects that received positive assessment are in final approval, registration and documentation phase, after which they will be provided with grants.
At the end of the event the puppet theater established with AYWA support within the “Social and Economic Empowerment of Women in Armenia” project presented “The Red Hat” performance to guests and children.
This is a project of social entrepreneurship, based on which the puppet theatre is established in Akhtala community. Till now the puppet theater group has performances in different communities of the region.
Apart from this 3 women entrepreneurs already have received financial assistance within the project. Especially after retooling Armenuhi Mamyan’s bread and pastry production reopened in Akhtala. Irina Israyelyan has received financial assistance for developing B&B and establishing camping; Anahit Jaghinyan has received financial assistance for purchasing equipment and establishing pastry production.
Within the project Women’s Councils are established and actively operate in 10 communities of Lori region in Akhtala, Alaverdi, Shamlugh, Shnogh, Teghut, Mets Ayrum, Odzun, Haghpat, Tchotchkan and Aqori. Women’s Councils actively participate in decision making process in communities, raise women’s issues and try to solve them within the frameworks of cooperation between community’s women and different institutions.
