Local Economic Development model café was held in Alaverdi within Social and Economic Empowerment of Women in Armenia Project.
Social and Economic Empowerment of Women in Armenia Project has being implemented by Armenian Young Women’s Association (AYWA) and is funded by the European Union. This event was a round-table discussion with the purpose to brainstorm solutions for the economic problems in the communities.
The participants were Alaverdi, Haghpat, Odzun, Akori, Ardvi, Hagvi, Jiliza, Kachachkut, Tsaghkashat communities’ representatives.
During the meeting participants presented competitive advantages of every community, defined the most important problems in the communities and discussed community economic development main directions.
"We are glad that AYWA team has been able to work with not one, but a group of community-clusters,and at the same time has noted prospects of clusters development and cooperation between involved communities.
This event is just one component of the project entrepreneurship trainings for women will follow it. With this component we enable involved communities women, by following developed LED model, identified problems and recommendations, to participate in business trainings, to gain knowledge how to develop business idea and implement it. AYWA is going to provide financial assistance in form of grant to entrepreneurship trainings best business projects’,- said AYWA president Lilit Asatryan.
Among the LED café workshop participants was head of Jiliza community Lori region Mher Vardanyan who mentioned the following “Thanks to implementers of the project, for giving an opportunity to our community to take part in this event and project. I am very optimistic about it. I hope that in the future we will have works done in communities. I deal with AYWA previously, and thank you for good work.”

Armenian Young Women’s Association (AYWA) has been implementing Social and Economic Empowerment of Women in Armenia Project in Lori Region since May 2013. The project duration is three years from May 2013 to May 2016.
The goal of the Social and Economic Empowerment of Women in Armenia Project is to promote the development of women’s social and economic capacities in Lori region and the improvement of women’s social and economic situation. The project partners are CISP organization, Lori Marzpetaran and Vanadzor municipality. The project is funded by the European Union.
