Dear Friends,
The Armenian United Nations Association (AUNA) with support of the RA Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs (MSY) is announcing a Call for Applications in the scope of the 3rd Armenian Republican Model UN conference to be held in Yerevan, on 11 December 2009.
The Conference will be a simulation of the UN Economic and Social Council, featuring the theme: "From Kyoto to Copenhagen".
Model UN is a simulation of the UN bodies during which participants represent delegates of different UN member countries and discuss issues of all mankind importance.
The principal objective of the Conference is to disseminate UN values and principles and to educate a broader segment of youth in Armenia on diplomacy, international relations, global issues, advocacy, governance, democratization, conflict resolution and development strategies to contribute to the democratic development of Armenia.
Topics for discussions include:
Target 1. Integration of the principles of sustainable development into country policies and programs
Target 2. Reducing biodiversity loss
Target 3. Creation of sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation
Target 4. Improvement in the lives of slum dwellers
Three preparatory trainings will be conducted in Yerevan prior to the Conference.
The Conference working language is English.
AUNA is now inviting University-level students and NGO representatives to apply to be delegates.
The criteria for acceptance of a delegate are as follows:
Age requirements
All applicants must be at least 18 but not older than 25 years of age.
Completion of application
Complete and submit the Application form
Each applicant must complete an essay of no more than 300 words (see the Application form, Part III) on his/her motivation and purpose of taking part as a delegate in a Model United Nations.
Language requirements
Applicants should be fluent in English.
Selection Criteria:
Selection Board comprised of AUNA and MSY will choose participants of ages between 18-25 from the RA regions and from Yerevan.
Applicants will be chosen by a 2-stage competition based on their essays (see the Application form, Part III) and will be interviewed as well.

All the selected applicants will be informed about their participation no later than 1 December.
