In April, the Armenian Young Women’s Association (AYWA) participated in the annual Ecotourism in Armenia conference, organized by the American University of Armenia. AYWA presented its work in the Organic Agriculture and Culinary Tourism section, with speakers including AYWA Project Coordinator Mariam Poghosyan and Gohar Khachikyan, a beneficiary from the Lori region and leader of a berry gathering group. They presented the activities of AYWA’s social enterprise NURIK , a community and tourism development center, as well as “LOVE” Tea production, in which many women from the Lori region are involved.
AYWA also presented details of the association’s cooperation with the World Bank Group’s Armenia Gender project, which is implemented by the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The project aims to support women engaged in the wild harvest sector, help them increase productivity by improving their skills, business education, and networking, among other activities. A discussion and Q and A session was held after the speeches.
This is the third annual conference on Ecotourism in Armenia, organized by the American University of Armenia. The aim is to accelerate the development of ecotourism in Armenia by offering a platform for exchanging ideas and experiences, and creating a network of stakeholders.
